Surrogacy with Own Bio-Materials
Surrogacy using a couple’s own biological material (eggs and/or sperm) is ideal for those who are capable of producing healthy gametes but cannot carry a pregnancy to term. We refer to a couple that plans to raise a child, created through pregnancy in a surrogate, as Intended Parents. When the intended parents create embryos using their own eggs and sperm, they are also the Biological Parents. It is also possible to create embryos using donor gametes and have the pregnancy carried by a surrogate.
In surrogacy using a couple’s own biological material, an embryo is created using the intended parents’ own egg and sperm and then transferred to the uterus of a surrogate mother. With the help of a surrogate mother, intended parents have the opportunity to experience the joy of building a family. Using their own biological material allows intended parents to maintain a genetic link to their child while ensuring a safe pregnancy through a surrogate.
Surrogacy with Parents’ Own Eggs and/or Sperm is Recommended for:
- Women with medical conditions that make pregnancy dangerous or impossible (e.g. absence of uterus, severe uterine abnormalities, or life-threatening health conditions);
- Couples who have experienced multiple miscarriages or repeated IVF failures despite using their own eggs and sperm or using donor eggs and sperm;
- Women who have undergone hysterectomy or other surgeries that prevent pregnancy;
- Women with chronic illnesses (e.g. cardiac, or autoimmune conditions) that could worsen with pregnancy;
- Women carrying an infectious disease that could be passed to the baby;
- The use of donor eggs with surrogacy is recommended for intended parents for whom surrogacy is recommend but who are also unable to produce healthy eggs due to early menopause, diminished ovarian reserve, genetic conditions, certain medical treatments, or previous surgeries.
Surrogacy Law in Georgia
Eligibility: Surrogacy and egg donation are legally permitted in Georgia for heterosexual married couples or for heterosexual couples who have lived together for at least one year and can provide official proof of cohabitation.
This makes Georgia a legally safe destination for surrogacy for intended parents of any nationality whether they use their own gametes or donor oocytes.
Birth Certificate for the baby: Under Georgian law, when a child is born through surrogacy, the intended parents are listed as the child’s only legal parents on the birth certificate. Neither the surrogate mother nor the egg donor has any parental rights, and their names do not appear on the certificate.
Flexible Options for Surrogacy with Own Bio-Materials
To create embryos using the intended parents’ own biological material, the intended mother must undergo ovarian stimulation, which typically takes around two weeks. For intended parents planning to use egg donation, the egg donor undergoes ovarian stimulation and oocyte retrieval. At Reproart, we offer two three flexible options to accommodate different schedules and personal preferences.
Option 1: Complete the Entire Stimulation Process to create embryos
Intended mothers can undergo the full ovarian stimulation protocol at Reproart in Georgia. This option allows for close in-person monitoring by our doctors and may provide additional comfort and support. If you choose this route, please plan to stay in Georgia for approximately 15–16 days.
Option 2: Begin Ovarian Stimulation process to create embryos in Your Home Country
Alternatively, intended mothers can start ovarian stimulation in their home country under the remote supervision and guidance of our medical professionals. This is a convenient option for those who cannot take extended time off work. Monitoring of the response to ovarian stimulation will be performed by medical professionals near your home in consultation with Reproart. With this approach, you would only need to travel to Georgia for the egg retrieval (aspiration) procedure, typically requiring a stay of just 2–3 days.
Option 3: Use embryos that have already been created and cryopreserved
Intended parents may use embryos that have already been created and cryopreserved here at Reproart or may use embryos that have been created and cryopreserved elsewhere by having them transported to Reproart by reputable transport agencies approved by us. These may be embryos created using the intended parents’ own biological gametes or embryos created using donor gametes.

Selection of a Surrogate: How it Works
At Reproart, we operate our own in-house surrogate mother recruitment agency, which works exclusively with our clinic. This allows us to have carefully screened surrogate candidates and provide a faster matching process for intended parents.
Surrogates at Reproart are Georgian women between the ages of 21 and 41 who have given birth to at least one healthy child. All surrogate candidates complete a full medical screening, including blood work, ultrasound, infectious disease testing, and general health evaluation. Once approved, they are matched with intended parents and supported throughout the program.
All of our surrogates undergo comprehensive medical and psychological evaluations. Only after our medical team approves a candidate for her physical and emotional readiness for the program, the surrogate mother matching process begins. This ensures the highest standards of safety in the surrogate mother selection and matching process.
