Who are Egg Donors?
Egg donors are healthy women between the ages of 21 and 30 who complete a multi-step interview process followed by comprehensive medical screening. Our donors desire to support others in achieving parenthood. In accordance with Georgian law, egg donors will have no parental rights or responsibilities.
In-House Donor Base
Reproart operates a dedicated in-house egg donor agency, providing immediate access to a diverse pool of screened donors, matched to each patient’s needs.
Diversity of Options
Many of our donors are of Caucasian origin from Georgia and Armenia. Donors of other ethnicities such as Slavic, Asian, or African descent may also be available upon request.
What are the Steps of Egg Donation?
1. Initial Consultation and Assessment
The process begins with a consultation, where your reproductive endocrinologist reviews your medical history, previous treatments, and any relevant test results. This step ensures that egg donation is the right option and helps create a plan tailored to your specific medical needs.
2. Male Partner Evaluation including Semen Analysis
The male partner or sperm donor provides a semen sample, which is analyzed to assess sperm quality. Blood testing is often performed to assess general health status and to rule out infectious diseases. When necessary, additional tests or specialized sperm preparation methods are used. For surrogacy programs, collected sperm is cryopreserved in advance and stored.
3. Donor Matching and Stimulation
An egg donor is carefully selected based on medical, genetic, and personal compatibility factors including ethnicity and physical characteristics like height, weight, eye color, hair colorThe donor then undergoes close medical supervision including controlled ovarian stimulation using hormone therapy to produce multiple eggs for collection.
4. Egg Retrieval and Fertilization
Once the donor’s follicles reach optimal size, eggs are retrieved through a short procedure performed under light anesthesia. These eggs are then fertilized in the laboratory using sperm from the intended father or sperm donor to create embryos. As embryos develop they are monitored in the lab.
5. Uterine Preparation
At the same time, the intended mother or surrogate undergoes hormonal preparation of the uterine lining for embryo implantation. Estrogen and progesterone are administered to create a receptive environment for establishment of a pregnancy with the embryo selected for transfer.
6. PGT-A (Optional)
Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A) can be performed on developing embryos to determine if they have the correct number of chromosomes to support live birth of a healthy baby. . This optional step helps identify embryos with the highest implantation potential and reduces the risk of numerical chromosomal abnormalities.
7. Embryo Transfer
The best embryo is selected and gently placed into the prepared uterus using a thin, flexible catheter with ultrasound confirmation. The transfer is quick, painless, and usually requires only minutes of recovery time, allowing patients to resume normal activities soon after.
8. Pregnancy Confirmation
Approximately 9-12 days after the embryo transfer, a blood test (β-hCG) is performed to determine if the embryo has implantated in the uterine lining.. A positive result is followed in subsequent weeks by ultrasound exams to confirm presence of a fetal sac with a beating heart and monitor healthy embryo development.
