Embryology Laboratory
Reproart’s Embryology Laboratory in Tbilisi is a state-of-the-art facility where every stage of embryo development is handled with accuracy, care, and discretion. From fertilization to embryo transfer, the entire process takes place in a carefully maintained environment that meets the highest laboratory standards for safety.
Our team of embryologists brings together years of hands-on experience and advanced academic training — including PhDs earned in the United States and master’s degrees in clinical embryology from the University of Valencia. They work closely with reproductive endocrinologists from the very beginning of the patient journey. Every treatment plan is developed collaboratively, with clear coordination between the clinical and laboratory teams to ensure optimal outcomes.
Every step in the laboratory is guided by strict protocols and attention to detail. Whether working with oocytes, sperm, or embryos, our team follows established procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and protection. The laboratory is specifically designed to protect biological material from environmental influences and maintain the most favorable conditions for embryo development.
Unique Air Quality and Filtration System at Reproart
Air purity is a critical factor in the success of any IVF procedure. Reproart’s embryology lab in Tbilisi was designed in collaboration with leading experts from the United States to meet the highest standards for laboratory air quality.
The lab is equipped with a sophisticated air filtration system — the only one of its kind in Georgia and the region — specifically designed for embryology environments.
This advanced system continuously filters and circulates air to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs), biological particles, and other airborne contaminants. Air quality is measured daily using a VOC meter to ensure consistently clean and stable conditions, particularly crucial during sensitive stages such as blastocyst development (Day 5).
Even minimal changes in air composition can impact embryo viability, which is why every fluctuation is monitored in real time. Maintaining this level of filtration is not only essential for embryo culture, but also for the safe handling of all biological materials, including sperm and oocytes.
Thanks to this unique infrastructure and strict air management protocols, Reproart’s laboratory is recognized as a regional reference center for high-standard embryology practices.
RI Witness: Sample Identity and Safety
To ensure that all biological materials — oocytes, sperm, and embryos — are correctly tracked and matched, Reproart uses the RI Witness system. This electronic safeguard uses barcodes and sensors to monitor every step of the process, preventing human error. If a mismatch is detected, the procedure is halted immediately.
Reproart was the first and remains the only clinic in Georgia to implement the RI Witness system, setting a new standard for laboratory safety in the country.
This system offers patients an added layer of reassurance — every movement, every container, every step is digitally confirmed in real time. By combining automated safeguards with human expertise, RI Witness helps ensure that the right biological material is always used for the right patient. In a field where precision means everything, this technology supports not just safety, but peace of mind.
Andrology Laboratory
Reproart’s Andrology Laboratory provides full male fertility testing and sperm preparation services. All procedures are performed under strict protocols aligned with international clinical standards.
Services include semen analysis (spermogram), DNA fragmentation testing, viability assessment, and sample preparation for both intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). Sperm freezing (cryopreservation) is also available for patients who wish to preserve fertility for future use. The entire workflow is carried out in a sterile and carefully controlled laboratory environment, ensuring accurate diagnostics and safe handling of samples.
ZyMot Technology: Advanced Sperm Selection
Reproart is the only clinic in Georgia to offer ZyMot technology — a next-generation microfluidic method for selecting sperm. ZyMot gently isolates healthy, motile sperm with low levels of DNA fragmentation, simulating the natural filtration that occurs in the female reproductive tract.
Unlike traditional centrifugation techniques, which may cause physical or oxidative stress to sperm, ZyMot uses a non-invasive flow system that reduces potential damage. This technique is especially effective for IVF and ICSI cycles, where sperm quality directly influences fertilization outcomes and embryo development.
By integrating ZyMot into our fertility protocols, Reproart provides patients with access to one of the most advanced sperm selection methods available today.
Quality Control Framework
Reproart’s embryology and andrology laboratories follow a clear and structured quality control system based on ISO 9001 standards.
Every morning, the team checks all equipment — including incubators, micromanipulators, and freezing devices — as well as any tools that come into contact with biological material. Temperatures, gas levels, and incubator conditions are measured daily. Even small changes are flagged and reviewed right away. Embryologists and technical engineers are connected to an alert system that notifies them via mobile phone about any shifts in lab conditions, day or night.
All containers used in the lab — whether plastic or glass — are approved by the manufacturer and confirmed to be safe for working with human cells.
In addition to daily checks, internal audits are scheduled regularly. These include inspections of equipment, single-use materials, and culture media. Dedicated tools are also used to test the performance of lab instruments and to monitor the quality of the air — helping ensure stable and safe conditions for every sample handled in the lab.
