Genomics – In-House Reproductive Genetics Center
Excellence in Reproductive Genetics, Right Beside Your Care Team
About In-house Reproductive Genetics Center
Genomics is Reproart’s in-house reproductive genetics center, founded in 2020 to bring cutting-edge genetic diagnostics into assisted reproductive technologies in Georgia. The vision behind Genomics was to advance the field of reproductive genetics in Georgia — for both local and international patients undergoing fertility treatment. Located next to Reproart’s main building in Tbilisi, Genomics allows for seamless coordination between your reproductive endocrinologist, embryologist, and geneticist — ensuring safe, fast, and fully integrated care.
PGT-A Testing Performed at Genomics
At Reproart, PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidies) is performed at Genomics — our in-house reproductive genetics center, located next to our main building in Tbilisi. This close proximity allows for immediate implant of biopsy samples without external shipping, ensuring a safe, efficient, and tightly coordinated process.
PGT-A helps identify embryos with the correct number of chromosomes before implant. Embryos with chromosomal abnormalities may not implant, may result in miscarriage, or may lead to genetic conditions. By testing embryos in advance, PGT-A allows us to select the healthiest ones — increasing success rates and helping prevent avoidable complications.
Why Location Matters: “Door to Door” Safety and Speed
In assisted reproduction, especially when using Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A), precise timing is essential. At Reproart, once the embryo biopsy is performed in our embryology lab, the sample is immediately passed to Genomics — with no need for packaging, shipping, or airport transport.
This close proximity ensures:
- No transport-related damage or temperature fluctuations
- No airport security or X-ray exposure
- No risk of lost or delayed shipments
- Faster results and less waiting time
- Direct collaboration between embryologists and geneticists
- Zero technical risk related to external shipping
- Significant time and cost savings for patients
By avoiding international transport altogether, your embryos stay safe, your process moves faster, and you avoid unnecessary stress.
What is PGT-A and When is it Recommended?
Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidies (PGT-A) helps identify embryos with the correct number of chromosomes before implant — a key step in improving IVF outcomes. Embryos with chromosomal abnormalities are less likely to implant, may result in miscarriage, or could lead to genetic conditions.
Your doctor may recommend PGT-A if:
- You are over 35 years old
- You’ve had multiple failed IVF cycles or early pregnancy losses
- There is a known sperm issue (severe male factor infertility)
- You want to implant only one embryo and increase the chance of success
- You wish to reduce the risk of chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome
By selecting chromosomally normal embryos, PGT-A improves implant rates, shortens time to pregnancy, and reduces emotional and physical strain throughout the IVF process.
How PGT-A Works?
PGT-A is performed during an IVF cycle to help identify the embryos with the correct number of chromosomes. Here’s how the process works
Embryos are created through IVF
Eggs and sperm are combined in the lab to create embryos.
Embryos reach the blastocyst stage
By day 5 or 6, embryos develop into blastocysts — the ideal stage for genetic testing.
A few cells are carefully biopsied
An experienced embryologist removes a small number of cells from the part of the blastocyst that will become the placenta. This delicate step is performed in Reproart’s embryology lab and is crucial for both safety and accuracy.
The biopsy is transferred directly to Genomics
Because Genomics — our reproductive genetics lab — is located next door to the embryology lab, the sample is handed over immediately with no transport risks.
Embryos are frozen, and chromosomal analysis begins
After biopsy, the embryos are safely frozen. The biopsy samples are analyzed at Genomics, our in-house reproductive genetics lab, to check for chromosomal abnormalities.
Results are typically ready within 20 days, though in many cases they may be available as early as 10 days.
Your doctor reviews the report and selects the healthiest embryo
Once the results are ready, your doctor discusses them with you and selects the embryo with the best chance of a successful pregnancy.

Global Collaboration: Our Partnership with Vitrolife Genomics
To maintain the highest technical and scientific standards, Genomics partners with Vitrolife, one of the world’s pioneers in assisted reproductive technology.
- Founded in 1994, Vitrolife was among the first companies focused exclusively on IVF lab solutions
- In 2018, they became the exclusive global distributor of Illumina’s genetic testing technology for IVF
- Their products are trusted by clinics across the globe for precision, consistency, and safety
- Vitrolife has provided direct training in PGT-A protocols to Genomics staff — aligning our practices with the most advanced international standards
This partnership ensures that patients in Georgia have access to world-class technology and protocols, without ever leaving the country.
Additional Testing Services at Genomics
Genomics also offers a wide range of advanced tests that support fertility diagnostics and reproductive planning for both women and men.
These include PCR-based tests for detecting infectious diseases and hereditary risk factors.
- HPV testing – to detect high-risk human papillomavirus types that may affect cervical health
- Thrombophilia panel – to identify inherited mutations related to blood clotting disorders, which may impact fertility or pregnancy outcomes
- Y-chromosome microdeletion testing – to uncover genetic causes of male infertility
- STI screening – to detect sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and others that could affect reproductive health
- And other molecular and cytogenetic investigations relevant to reproductive health
These tests help uncover potential obstacles to conception or pregnancy and provide critical information for building a personalized treatment plan. to conception or pregnancy and provide critical information for building a personalized treatment plan.
